• i have set ?‘Users must be registered and logged in to comment’ to restrict spamming, but unfortunately this also restricts viewing as well:-\

is this a wordpress problem, or wp-members? any ideas on how to fix it?

nevermind, i found the problem in my theme…but it would be nice to be able to limit viewing of comments to logged-in users on a per-post basis…does the readmore/excerpt per-post block also block comments?

    lemme check…

By default, if a post is blocked, so are the comments.

There is not a setting in the plugin to unblock comments that are part of a restricted post. However, there are some filters (both WP and WP-Members).

wpmem_securify_comments can be used to open comments up. The documentation example shows how to enable it in general (i.e. for all posts), but there is a second argument passed to the filter that is the $post_id so you could do it on a per-post basis.
