• I use the latest WP/WC version with the theme Shoptimizer and GTM4WP.

I uploaded the GA3 container years ago and followed the enhanced e-commerce setup guide to the tee.

I did the same with GA4.

Everything is working well except that GA4 does not show view_item events all the time so the funnels are broken in the reports. I have 293 items added to the cart and only 8 items viewed.

I have read all the support topics I could find on this topic and ticked of all the solutions provided.

I still can not see a way to get this working. The view_item event does not fire in the Google Tag Managers Preview window of the product that the URL I gave. I tried it in several session and nothing triggered the view_item event.

How can I troubleshoot this issue?

I realised that the datalayer in the preview window of GTM shows a GA3 datalayer.

Could it be that GA4 needs different settings in the GTM4WP plugin settings? The settings are still configured for GA3.

I now deleted GTM4WP and re-installed it. I also delete the GTM container and started from scratch. I can’t get the view_item event to fire. Does this help troubleshoot the issue?
