When I do that, it creates a blank template file with basic HTML in. Is it possible to get the HTML for the template I have already designed on this plugin in the settings?

You can use your browsers developer tools ( Ctrl+Alt+i or Cmd+Alt+i ) and copy the HTML code from preview iframe.
