There is no built-in capability for this purpose in WordPress. It is possible to achieve this with special plugin, developed for this purpose.

Thanks for getting back to me. I know it isn’t possible with basic Wodpress features. What I was asking was: does your plugin ‘Use Role Editor’ allow me to create such a role, and if so, how?

(And if not, does such a plugin exist?)

User Role Editor will not help you with it.

    OK. Thanks anyway.

Did you figure out how to do this? Thx.

No, sorry. What I did in the end was publish the posts with password protection, and backdated them a couple of years so that they wouldn’t appear on the homepage or under recent post searches – so pretty much hidden from public view. Then I gave out the password and direct post link to the people who I wanted to be able to preview the article. Finally, when it became time to make the post public, I removed password protection and changed the publication to the current date, so that the post would appear as if new.

Not ideal by any means, but the best workaround I could come up with.
