View attachments in page

I originally posted this under another heading but didnt get any responses… perhaps I did not describe the issue properly so posting again slight modified.

I am looking for a plugin that allows visitors to my site to be able to view any attachment in a sort of overlay / preview in the same way that Gmail allows to view documents that you have received in mail. You click on the attachment, ( text file or image file ), and it opens up on the same page in an almost transparent overlay ( you can still see the site in the background ) and once you are done, just press escape and you are back where you started. Downloading is an option, not the default.

If anyone knows what I am talking about and can point me in the right direction I would be grateful.
