Videos and Cookie Blocking

Hi,

Is there any way to have YouTube videos and other embedded content work without consent on automatic cookie blocking mode – without breaking GDPR?

For example, when I have automatic cookie blocking on – none of the embedded YouTube videos show because the user has to accept marketing cookies first.

Could YT cookies be viewed as ‘essential’ under GDPR and so moved into that category and thus allow the videos to be shown without the user having to do anything?

As a work around, I have set cookies to ‘manual’ for now.

But I think this makes my entire site now GDPR non-compliant because all cookies are enabled right away?

Any insights appreciated.

There seems to be a conflict with Cookiebot and the GP Premium plugin for Generatepress. It was stopping the main menu expanding on mobile. I contacted the authors and they said it wasn’t their issue. After switching off plugins multiple times and reactivating them the problem seems to have resolved – but might be an underlying issue.
