video theme

    I’m using TV Elements Light 2.0 from https://www.press75.com for my site, https://www.theresident.net. I like it a lot, but I am having trouble with some kind of spam within the theme.

    If you go here: https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal and enter my site, you get a return of recommended keywords that are indicative of spam and not what’s on my site (how to make money fast, etc).

    To troubleshoot, I deactivated and deleted all of my plugins. Then I deactivated and deleted my TV Elements theme. I started fresh with a plain WP site, with all of my posts, comments, links, and other content intact. At that time I went to the Keyword Tool again, and it recommended keywords that were relevant to my site, not spam keywords.

    Then, I reinstalled the TV Elements Light 2.0, and all of a sudden, again – the Keyword Tool returned many spam words. So there is something within the TV Elements Light 2.0 theme that I have downloaded that is pulling the spam keywords.

    Is this a known issue with themes? If so, is there a fix to it? Any help would be great as I do not want search engines to think my site is spam.

    Otherwise, if someone can recommend a similar theme that could support video, that would be great, too.

    Thanks Sam! Yeah, I asked them over there – no reply as of yet. ??

    So frustrating. I wish there was a comparable video theme out there that I could just use instead, but I can’t find another good one to use.

    Thanks! Yeah, the irony is that the one I’m using is listed there, haha. I wish I could just find where the bad code is and get rid of it…but I guess it’s not that simple or easy, is it?

    look in the theme’s functions.php – that’s where spam links are usually called from

    Hi – why was the code I placed up there removed???

    I didn’t see anything being called from functions.php
    I see what you mean about the suggested keywords but couldn’t say how they get them – maybe search through the theme files for clues

    you might want to switch themes for a couple of days then check the site again – just to rule out if you have a deeper problem

    Yeah, I switched themes earlier today, and I uninstalled all my plugins…been cracking at it for like 10 hours now – it is definitely something in the theme files. Argh!

    I guess I’ll have to just find another theme – I just don’t want it to end up being the same issue – no way to tell really until I plunk down the money.
