I recently updated to Twenty Sixteen from a rather outdated theme. I have a large number of flv videos uploaded on my host server. These videos show up in Media Library and play fine there, but when I try to re-embed them in my posts using shortcode:

I get an outline of the wp embed media player but no file. The flv files are already on my server, so no problem uploading, but they just refuse to play on the Twenty Sixteen theme using the embedded player.
Any ideas how to fix it?

Uploading non-image files fails for certain extensions.

See ticket #39550 if it relates to your issue.

For now, use the Disable Real MIME Check plugin and remove it as soon as 4.7.2 is released.

Thanks for the response, t-p,
I’ve installed and activated Disable Real MIME Check but it’s not solved the problem. I don’t think this is an upload issue as the files are already uploaded on the server (IXWebhosting). They play in Media Library without issue. It’s only when they’re embedded on the post page using WordPress Embed Media Player that there’s an issue. All that shows is the play-bar of the player and it’s grayed out. It only happens with flv files. Mp4s play okay.
On my old theme (non-wp) I was using FLV Media Player, but I’ve discovered that is long outdated.

I’ve found that installing the KVS Player plugin has allowed my copious stock of uploaded flv files to be embedded again successfully. I still don’t understand why the WordPress embedded player can’t handle them.
