When I activate the AMP plugin the video added with the video element doesn’t work. I have also tried to embed by adding a raw html doc, but same result. No video. Anyone knows what the problem is?

  • Thanks for reaching out. If you’d like to share an example of a page with a video while using the AMP plugin in transitional mode I’d be happy to check this for you.

In addition to sharing a URL with an embedded video when checking your site at present I can see the AMP plugins meta tag at present displaying that you’re using the plugin in standard mode however the AMP URLs don’t have the amp attribute, or are not AMP valid. It might be useful to share your Site Health information so I can check your site setup. You can use our user submission form to share privately if preferred.

Sorry. Didn’t know it had to be in transitional. I have changed it now, and now the videos show. Another problem now though. When checking the url in PageSpeed Insights, I get the error “Lighthouse returned error: NOT_HTML”. Any clue as to this?

And the mobile site is totally messed up after switching to transitional. So not a good idea…

You don’t have to activate transitional mode however it would be ideal to compare the video on your canonical (non AMP) URLs compared to your AMP URLs. As it looks like you managed to get transitional mode active now I can see a server timeout error when trying to access your AMP URLs. This could be as a result of a large number of plugins active which are not AMP compatible.

If you’d like to share your Site Health information along with an example URL with a video I’d be happy to check your environment and see if I notice anything.

Here is the cannonical url https://watercompany.dk/ and here is the AMP url https://watercompany.dk/?amp=1.

I have submitted a form with the health details.

    thx.

Many thanks for sharing. From checking the details you kindly provided it looks like your theme and many of the plugins you have active are not fully AMP compatible. This is likely the cause of the timeout errors on your site. While you could try and increase your memory limit I would suggest using the plugin in reader mode, using an AMP compatible theme and suppressing any plugins that are not AMP compatible. This will reduce the likelihood of time out errors.

In relation to the video on your homepage I’ve checked this and it looks like you’re using WP Bakery to insert the video. Unfortunately WP Bakery isn’t fully AMP valid. If you embed a Vimeo or YouTube video using the default WordPress editor it should load fine. If you want to try and do this on any particular test page or post I’m happy to check that this does work.
