I have a blank area appearing where the video should be in the Safari Browser and on iPhones when using both Object – Without Metadata & EmbedPlus – OBJECT fallback – without Metadata. The video appears okay when using IFRAME. The video is okay with all other browsers I checked with the problem is only on Safari and iPhone.

What should I be looking at so that I can use either Object or EmbedPlus?

  • OBJECT uses Flash which isn’t doesn’t work on the iPhone (and I’m guessing Safari). Unfortunately that means you can’t use EmbedPlus either as that uses it.

IFRAME will also use Flash but will use HTML5 instead if that’s not available – hence it works on non-Flash devices.

Thank You! I’m not as knowledgeable as I should be I was looking at the results of the W3C mobileOK Checker which was telling me that IFrame was bad to use, giving a “Critical Error” and was trying alternatives to increase the score. I guess IFrame isn’t that bad to use then. Or is it? Is there an alternative?

The best way is to use native HTML5 but YouTube doesn’t offer this at the moment.

Thanks Again! I guess I’m waiting for YouTube to upgrade then, so I’ll back-burner the thought for now.

That’s if they ever do. By providing the IFRAME option they control the code that’s used and can easily modify it, if required.
