Viagra Comment while no comments set

  • Whereever i can disable comments i did. But still some kind of scammers flood my side with comments. because there is no comment section in my index.php its not shown on frontend. but the backend every day shows the new incomming comments. how is that possible?

    i have active options on:
    user need to register and login to comment

    i have inactive options on:
    post/page -> allow comments

    but although user registration is off this scammers still can write comments.

  • Comments use an API (which basically means that it doesn’t require something to be available on your front-end for someone to communicate with it).

    You may want to consider completely disabling the XML-RPC API if you do not want any comments on your site.

    so does your answer mean that it is expected behavior to comment to a post while it is disabled? To me it sounds like a bug in the system.

    But anyway thanks for your Support. I’ll use that plugin.

    If you’re disabling comments via Settings, that only applies to new posts made after the change and it can be overridden on an individual post level.

    Due to the fact that there are other variables in play and that I do not have access to your site, I cannot confirm or exclude that there is a bug in core.

    There are a number of plugins to manage comments, but since you said that you don’t want any comments at all, disabling the API over which comments are made seems to make the most sense in your case.
