• Hey guys! I just got my new theme to a workable stage. (I have most the bugs worked out and I’m currently working on a few more template pages.)

It’s a very minimalistic theme, something I have never tried before, but I’m really loving it’s new look.

If you feel so inclined, check it out at:

  • L like it

I like the clean (nearly) monochromatic concept. Personally I would make all the grey/silver borders considerably lighter (like maybe two thirds the current saturation). I’m also not a big fan of the links going italic on mouseover since it changes the length of the link (that’s a tongue twister). What I mean by that is, for example, when you roll over the “Apathy” category link, the “2” in parentheses moves because the whole word gets shorter.

I suck at graphics work, so I don’t know how to do this, but I think it look nice to choose a subtle secondary color (perhaps blue to match your hyperlinks) and give the gradient borders a very subtle glassy tint in that color. I’m just spouting off ideas, take them as you will.

Thanks for the feedback, it’s good to hear responces!

I threw in the italic links as a “We’ll see what it’s like just because I can” ideas as I was building it. I know exactly what you mean, and I think they’ll be taken out of the final concept.

I may have to play a bit with the graphics, test out some concepts with the lighter borders and subtle secondary color.

Lightening the boarders is an intruiging idea to me, I don’t think I would have ever thought of that, I’m definately going to play around with it.

    Thanks.

Personally, I LOVE italics for things like h1 etc. And links, but in order to not bork the world’s most broken browser you have to go to INORDINATE lengths…. usually not worth it (especially if developing for client sites).

Same here, good start, but a bit more color would be even nicer ??

Hi. I personally like the typography and layout of the posts, but I think the borders are a bit overdone — maybe colored background boxes instead?

One thing is that you could give a bit more padding to the text containers that hit the borders, so they don’t actually touch it.

Thank you all for the feedback. (Sorry, I haven’t responded sooner.)

I’ve toyed a bit with the font spacing, but it’s not quite right yet. I’ll keep playing with it till I get it right. I did add more spacing to the sidebar and what-not.

(I haven’t had a chance to really test the site in IE yet, I keep forgetting when I actually have a chance…)

I’m also playing with getting a lighter border for the edge and top, although I really don’t mind the borders that I do have.

The other thing I have been thinking over is adding more color. I’m not convinced that it’s a necessity, but it’s something I want to play with. The trick is trying to figure out the best way to add color, so I’ll keep toying with that as well.

    Thanks again!

EDIT: I decided to add a faint overlay of color to part of the header and footer and I think I kinda like it, we’ll see if it sticks. (I didn’t do the sides because the reapeating background image makes it look too much like a patern.)
