Very slow site performance when this plugin is used

  • Hi there.
    I have recently been diagnosing why my site loads so slowly (10 seconds +), and have narrowed it down to this plugin.

    With 2 carousels on my front page (featured products and latest), the site will take 10 seconds plus to load.

    Without, it will take 3.

    When analysing the speed etc, the Time to First Byte is roughly 5.5 seconds with the carousels, and less than 1 second without.

    The store is rather large, with 50,000 products.

    Is there anything that can be done at all to improve this speed? I’m quite reluctant to pay for the pro version at the minute.
