• I tested Gutenberg out of curiosity, I usually use Visual Composer. I have to say that I would rate this editor minus 5 stars. Visual layouts are terrible, it’s not user friendly. When you lay out columns there are no outlines to show you where the columns are.

It’s like the developers have gone out of their way to confuse users. I’m a WordPress developer and even I couldn’t use it.

Please, please, please do not roll this out with WordPress, it’s a disaster!!!!

  • Could not agree more.

And those of us using custom fields of any sort, are SOL.

@jamesblachford1 firstly thanks for testing out Gutenberg. It’s important to note that the project is design lead so there are a lot of other roles involved in this. That said, all feedback is important to thank you.

What one thing did you find worked, or was it all didn’t work for you?

That said, also important to think about is the fact Gutenberg will roll out in phases. Phase one is the editor, which when compared to Visual Composer doesn’t line up. Phase two is Customization, where you see more page building like additions.

When you lay out columns there are no outlines to show you where the columns are.

This one comment got me thinking there is something we can add to the project to give visual feedback, thank you.

Another aspect to consider is Visual Composer and other products will work with Gutenberg and their teams are working on that now. What form that takes will be something to see as the project rolls out.

    Hi Tammie,

Thanks for coming back to my comment, in principle the idea of Gutenberg is brilliant, you really need to simplify it.

What’s great about a WYSIWYG editor is it’s easy for the “average” user to understand. You explain to a client that it works in the same way as Word, you can make text bold etc etc.

What Gutenberg doesn’t do is relate to anything familiar so it is alienating the user. The feedback is: I don’t know what to do, so it is too complicated, therefore I will do nothing.
