Very long server response when first loading website

  • Hi guys!

    I have a very specific loading problem with my wordpress site, maybe you can help me:

    The site loads fast generally. ONLY if it has not been visited ~ 10 minutes before, it needs like 12 seconds to load.

    Example: if i visit the website, and the website has been visited in the 10 minutes before (doesn’t matter from where, can be from around the world), it loads fast in about 2 seconds. If nobody visited the website before me in the last 10 minutes, it will need 12 seconds to load.

    This problem occurs on several wordpress themes. I always just imported a random tamplate from the respective theme. On very light themes like twenty twenty the loading time gets better, but still slow.

    It also occurs on every browser and every device.

    I tested the same site on another webhoster, with the exact same plugins and content, and it just works fine. So i think it’s a problem with the Server/Webhoster. I contacted my webhoster, who said it would be browser caching, which i think is bullshit because then it should be loading slow after i delete my browser cache, but it doesn’t. Like i said, it only loads slow when nobody visted the website recently.

    Has anyone ever experienced something like this? What specific thing could be causing this problem? I haven’t found anything on google / forums.

    Never had that specific issue. However, I always use cache plugins to speed up my sites, as well as CloudFare. Besides that, I optimize images and use CDNs when possible. It might be issues with the server, but even with a blazing fast server, if you don’t use optimization techniques, you will experience long loads

    Thanks for your answer! Yes, im aware of that. I tried caching plugins, but they are not helping. And like i said, on another webhoster the exact same site worked just fine.

    I suggest to get in touch with the tech support to check if there’s something going on with the server.
