Very impressive!
-
It’s remarkably simple to use, and worked like a charm!
One does need to be careful in setting up an SSL conversion. There are many steps that must be done before you’d even get to using the plugin.
Along with all the certificate installation steps, I had a cache on my site, so I made sure that was shut off before doing the conversion. I could only imagine the weirdness that could have occurred with a bizarre mix of the new HTTPS links but also having the old HTTP links in the cache. (of course, your browser’s cache may need clearing, too!) Another thing about having a site cache is that usually there are all sorts of .htaccess statements that the cache plugin installs. So definitely back your whole site up first, including the .htaccess! If this sounds scary, hire a professional to help you!
After all that stuff was set up, the actual conversion went very quickly and easily!
I double-checked my .htaccess afterward, and things looked good. The one thing I didn’t see was an explicit 301 redirect for SEO. Then I found out that the plugin handles that quietly behind the scenes, so Google will be happy!
Bonus points for Rogier’s suggestions as to what to update in your Google Analytics and other settings! He’s pretty much thought of everything.
Rogier,
Thanks for helping me with this outstanding plugin!
