Very bad idea for big busy sites

  • This plugin is shooting yourself in the foot if your site has lots of images and lots of hits all the time. All sorts of sizes will be requested all the time and your server will struggle to process the regeneration live. Mine is a Quad Core Xeon E3-1246 v3 @ 3.50GHz with 16 GB ram still it’s been hours with big loads trying to regenerate what this plugins removes. There’s a reason why wordpress does it once on upload and not upon request. It’s a very bad idea.

    I don’t see any scenario when this would be a good idea, when you start getting hits lots of images will begin recreating at the same time and it will kill the server. I can’t imagine what it would do to a VPS/shared host.

    And advertising “no performance hit” is false. Regenerating many images alt the same time increase load and slow down the site.

    sorry for the late reply, only now noticed the review ??

    The images are generated only on the first hit, later they are just served as usual, and it definitely shouldn’t take hours, that seems really weird.

    And I don’t see how the number of hits matters since as I said, the images are generated on the first hit only, so the number of additional hits makes no difference on the performance.

    Jumping in here: Do we still get small, medium, and large images, depending on what page they’re viewed?

    Hi,

    not sure what exactly you mean. The plugin doesn’t change how your images are delivered, you still get exactly the same sizes you would before activating the plugin, the only difference is that they are created when actually needed, and not on upload (exception being the default WordPress sizes as explained in the readme).

    Right, and that’s what I don’t know about. It’s not clear to me that because of some other advice I’ve taken, that I’ve blown the snot out of those dimensions. Do you know what they are offhand?
