The latest update changed the default shipping rates to “Free Shipping”, which started with the my first order following the update to 6.8.1 on 8.19.

There were pop-up messages in the WooCommerce Settings under the Shipping tab. However, they are no longer showing up.

The pop ups indicated and stated the following:
    1. “Step 1”: “We added a few shipping zones for you based on your location…” and there was a second United States (US) Zone created.
    2. “Step 2”: Under “Shipping Methods” it states “We defaulted to some recommended shipping methods based on your location…“, which defaulted everything to “Free Shipping” from that point forward.
    3. The “Free Shipping” zone took over as the primary setting and no shipping was charged.
    4. All of these pop-ups appeared to be related to the recommended WooCommerce Shipping solution plugin it was trying to pitch.

To return to the previous shipping rates I had setup I deleted the second shipping zone with the free shipping enabled.

This issue failed to charge the necessary shipping collected to cover drop-shipping delivery costs from a third party on-demand shirt printer, which now comes out of my pocket!

I’ve submitted a support ticket with Woo Commerce but thought I’d check with the WordPress community to see if there are any similar experiences.

  • Hi there @elcohaul,

    Thanks for reaching out!

With the release of WooCommerce 6.8.1, there was a bug reported that sounds very much like what you’ve experienced with the default Shipping Zone/Method. I’m sorry to hear this affected your site’s incoming revenue, and understand this is definitely not desireable.

WooCommerce is free and open-source, and we rely on and encourage users to be active in the reporting of any issues encountered. You can read the bug report and find information on the related fix here.

While we make every effort to test for and eliminate issues from each release, we’re unable to cover all eventualities when it comes to compatibility and existing site configurations. We always recommend testing any updates to WooCommerce or any other plugin in a staging or development environment before launching the update on a live site.

If you don’t have (or your host doesn’t provide) a staging site already, this free WP Staging plugin is an easy way to create and maintain one for such purposes.

I hope this is helpful for the future! Let us know if you have any other questions. ??
