Version numbers confusion: 3.39 vs. 3.5.0

As far as I understand, the latest release of NextGEN Gallery is 3.39, released in September 2023.
What confuses me is that there are deprecation notes announcing upcoming versions 3.5.0 and 4.0.0 “scheduled for February 2021” and several mentions of a NextGEN Gallery 3.5.0 as early as 2020.
This feature will be deprecated in?NextGEN Gallery 3.5.0, and removed in?NextGEN Gallery 4.0.0, scheduled for?February 2021.

Imagely sent us patches for review on December 16, and published the patched version, 3.5.0, on December 17, 2020.
