    As detailed on Github (https://github.com/woocommerce/woocommerce/issues/38755) there is an error impacting version 7.8.0 of WooCommerce whereby an “Adding new attribute failed” error appears whenever a product is opened or edited.

    Changing themes and turning off plugins makes no difference, and as per the Github thread this is impacting many users that have upgraded to 7.8.0.

  • Just had this response from Woo Support:

    “We’ve seen a few reports of this error, however, we’ve not been able to replicate this on our test sites. I suspect the error is a result of a conflict between WooCommerce and another commonly used plugin, which is why a few people are receiving the error.?

    On your site, can you please check by deactivating all plugins except WooCommerce, and setting the theme to a default theme like?Storefront Theme?and then see if the error still persists??

    That’s interesting – as mentioned in my previous comment I had a response from WooCommerce advising that they had been able to replicate the problem and they were working on a fix.

    It would be really helpful if WooCommerce support responded to the queries within the thread, rather than sending different messages to different users by email.

    Same here this just started today after bulk updating products.

    I’ve received an email from WooCommerce support advising that this issue has been fixed with version 7.8.1, however, I’ve upgraded and the problem remains (and I’ve tested without plugins using a different theme with no cache running in an incognito window).

    For your information, I rollback to version 7.7.2 and have had no problems. Apparently there was no DB update when I upgraded to 7.8.0, so it doesn’t seem too risky.

    This was an open issue?reported on GitHub here. The?fix was included in WooCommerce version 7.8.1.

    Please can you update WooCommerce to its latest version which should resolve the issue.

    I have the same issue with the 7.8.1 upgrade. I’m going to install the newest 7.8.2 release and test again…

    EDIT: 7.8.2 release seems to have solved the issue ??

    I don’t know why this was marked as resolved as it wasn’t. I’ve been continuing to liaise with WooCommerce – they acknowledged the problem started with a change to the way that product attributes are loaded in version 7.8.0, and I continued to experience the same problem with versions 7.8.1, 7.8.2 and 7.9.0. WooCommerce Support kept asking me to test with different plugins and themes in order to find a specific trigger, but the issue was so random I couldn’t isolate any one plugin as the cause.

    Support did advise they were still looking into it (https://github.com/woocommerce/woocommerce/issues/38917) and that a technical fix for developers was available (https://github.com/woocommerce/woocommerce/pull/38815) however the problem persisted on some, but not all sites running 7.9.0.

    As I couldn’t indefinitely keep testing live and test sites with endlessly different combinations of themes and plugins I raised the issue with my hosting engineers and they enabled PHP’s OPcache module (which reduces memory usage and improves performance) as well as increasing memory_limit from 256 MB to 512 MB. A handful of other modules (mcrypt, imagick, nd_pdo_mysql) were also activated as WordPress recommends them – with these changes to PHP the Product Attributes error immediately stopped.

    This has been nothing but hassle for the past month, so I hope the above solution works for others affected.

    @sbwdblog8 – Thanks for the update and agree there is no reason to mark this as resolved when it continues to be ongoing for many sites. I implemented the fixes with enabling the additional modules in PHP and so far, that seems to have fixed the issue for my site. Thanks for the suggestions and assistance!

    I’m having this issue on 7.9.0 while randomly opening a product to edit. Sometimes it appears just after the initial load and other times it appears after hitting update (I’m using chrome if that matters). I tried increasing memory_limit and enabled the modules recommended however the problem still persists. I’m also getting random 503 errors after hitting update on a product, not sure if the two are related or not.

    Was interested to read gomazvspedro comments a few minutes ago. I have also updated to 7.9.0 and still getting the error no matter what browser I use or increasing the memory limit etc. I have also been getting 503 errors in the last two weeks, now have the support guys looking into this, but did not think of the two being related. perhaps they are it is becoming very annoying as something that should take 5mins to do is taking longer than half hour due to the 503 errors. Thanks I will pass this on to our Tech guys.
