Version 4.4 to 4.7.2

Hello,
I was given a new site to manage that hasn’t been updated since version 4.4. All the plugins are up to date, though. What is the best way to update this site to version 4.7.2 without breaking it?

I know there have been several releases. Are there ones I can skip?
