I cannot update the NextGen Gallery version 3.2.15. When I click the Update link, the plugins page goes blank. I click the back button to get back to the page, and then all the links in the admin site are broken — the /wp-admin/ disappears from each link. I have to type this in to each admin link to make the site work. It also crashes the navigation on the front end of the website — all links redirect to the home page.

I tried deactivating every single other plugin on the site and activating NextGen, but I still couldn’t update the plugin and use it. I also deleted the plugin off the server and tried installing a new version. That also didn’t help — it still wouldn’t activate.

The site was updated to the latest version of WordPress Friday, 9/6/19. The problem was reported at 1 pm US CDT on Tuesday, 9/9/19.

    Can you help?

  • Hi @nocontactforms

    That seems really unusual.
Can you try to update any other plugin, does the problem persist?

Of course, according to our protocol, you should first check if the requirements are correct https://www.imagely.com/docs/requirements/

Try to do a manual update to see if that helps https://www.imagely.com/docs/installing-and-updating-nextgen-gallery/

Nevertheless, it seems that something else is going on, did you have a recent problem with your WordPress install? Have you tried to temporarily disabled your theme?

    Please, keep us posted.

Gaby: I deleted the NextGen files and uploaded the new version by FTP. That didn’t work. I also tried uploading the previous version. Nope.

I also installed the WP 2019 theme and tried it with that theme. Didn’t work.

I checked with my web hosting company and they meet the requirements on the page you linked to.

Did not have a problem with the WordPress update Friday that I noticed.

It seems like once the plugin installs, the site wants to go to some kind of greeting page for NextGen. That page is blank. And then that’s when everything starts redirecting.

The only other thing I can think of to do is install the previous version of WordPress to see if that works. But then I’d have a non-secure site.

I have deleted the plugin for now, and the site works again. Please let me know if you have any other solutions or would like access to the site to take a look. I’ll wait a couple of days before we make a final decision.

    Hi @nocontactforms,

Let’s try to temporarily deactivate all the other plugins and activate a theme from Twenty series then activate NextGen to see if you will get the same issue.

If that solves the problem, please activate the other plugins one by one to find out which one conflicts then finally, activate your theme.

Hope that this will help to find out why it happens

Just tried that. All plugins deactivated and using WP 2019 theme. Still breaks the site. I reinstalled the plugin, and the launch screen doesn’t show. All links on the site redirect to the home page.

This is the page that blanks:
    https://nsrc-online.org/wp-admin/?page=nextgen-gallery

I have put back the site.

    Hello @nocontactforms
I know that this actually requires time.
Is it possible for us to check your site?

We’d like to take a closer look at the problem with your NextGen Gallery update. We may need to temporarily deactivate plugins and switch the theme while troubleshooting. Would you feel OK with that? If so, please send us a bug report here: https://www.imagely.com/report-bug, refer back to this forum thread and let them know Gaby referred you.

    Thanks!
