Version 2.3.1 does not work for me

On our site this version does not display the requested number of excerpts. We are on WP 3.4.2 going to 3.5.
See test.galileoweb.org versus https://www.galileoweb.org.
Restoring to version 2.2 corrects the problem under both WP 3.4.2 & 3.5.
