As well as a few bug fixes, this version includes an importer to migrate petitions and signatures from the abandoned SpeakUp to SpeakOut!

  • Hi, I’m just testing your plugin, it is great, simple & efficient at the same time.

As I see you’re working on it, just a simple list of problems, corrections and suggestions, in no special order :

    – in the database, there’s a “custom message” field, but it seems We can’t find it nowhere in the backoffice, it would be useful.
    – you could propose a verification by IP or Email address (as it is now)
    – great to chose the message for petition shared on twitter, same thing for Facebook would be nice.
    – Could be very useful We can import signatures from any csv file (I’m doing it through the db, it’s easy, but surely not so easy for everybody). For my example, I start this petition on another plugin, but this one showed itself too limited, that’s why I go to yours, but meanwhile lot of people have signed the first one ??
    – More than just one custom field would be very appreciated, with possibility to chose between text or textarea inputs (and why not radio, checkboxes).
    – The “Petition message” field should be optionnal. Because the form could be integrated in a post where this text is already written.
    – The french translation for the prepopulated fields is sometimes funny ?? Especially for the email message, if you want help on this I’ll do.

I stop for now, I hope it would be useful to you and thanks again for your great plugin !

Thanks for the suggestions. I will investigate them all. A few questions to clarify some things.

I’ll check up on the custom message, more custom fields and Facebook share.

Why verify by IP address if the email verification is there?, and this is what we really care about? Besides, how would it work? If you provide IP 1.1.1.1, sure I can test if it is valid, but it doesn’t verify you as being ‘real’. I know there are many ways around email verification, but at least it gives a petition some credibility to say they have all been verified.

I noticed a plugin to import CSV to the old SpeakUp plugin. I’ll check it out and either contact the author or maybe fork that as well.

So you are suggestion an option “use text of this post” as the message? I’ll have to check on the WordPress API but I imagine this is possible and a good idea.

If you can give me some fixes for the French translation, I’d be delighted to update it and credit you.

    Hello,

I’m fixing the french language right now, tell me how to send it to you please, I’m not familiar with these forums too ??

Another thing I’ve forgotten yesterday which would be very useful : set more than one signatures goal, as Avaaz do for example.

Checking IP addresses would prevent fraud, from users using a lot of email addresses on the very same computer, but of course it would be a problem if several people at the same place with the same IP want to sign the same petition.

    Best regards

This would be useful, but I have no idea of the format of all similar plugin databases, so it would be quite difficult to do unless there is one other petition plugin that dominates and I could make that one work.

The other thing is that this is a unique problem for you so doing a lot of work to solve a problem for one person is not an efficient way to do things.

The “Petition message” field should be optionnal. Because the form could be integrated in a post where this text is already written.

This won’t happen as the idea of the plugin is to email someone with the content of your message and a signature. If you are suggesting that the content of the post could be grabbed and included as the message, that might be possible, I would have to look at the WordPress API.

But I picture that a post page would be a story about the issue and then a call to action to send a message. Even if the post was “Fill in our petition below”. I can’t imagine the post itself being “dear mayor, blah blah” – though who knows what people do with sites :o)

    – More than just one custom field would be very appreciated, with possibility to chose between text or textarea inputs (and why not radio, checkboxes).

-Can you give me examples of how you would use something like this?

As an example we would like to have someone sign our petition, but then tell us 2 more fields (their age), and maybe a group of checkboxes of the sports they play since we are using hte “petition” more of a “sign a pledge” functionality. Would be excellent to be able to get these 2 bits of meta data to help in our reporting.

I cloned the SVN repo (I use git not SVN so no idea what the workflow is to providing a “pull request” how, but trying figuring out how to add this). Any guidance on what it might take to add more than 1 custom field would be awesome. I’m willing to try to make the adjustments and push them up for others if that’s helpful.

OK, thanks for that. I’ll look at implementing it in a future release.
