I created the verification folders and downloaded the verification file and uploaded it to the folders, I click on verify and it opens another window with the verification code on it but when I click next I get the following error:

Verifying domain ownership failed. Please check that the files listed below are uploaded to “webroot/.well-known/acme-challenge/” directory.

  • Hello,

I was not able to reproduce this behavior on our server. Can you open a support ticket here with more details? https://sslzen.com

    Hello,
After I installed Plugin named “Free SSL Certificate for WordPress – SSL Zen” I started with verifying domain ownership.
First I created folders ‘.well-known/acme-challenge’ in public_html/ and uploaded files (File 1 and File 2) to acme-challenge folder.
After that, I tried to Verify them by clicking on “Verify” buttons next to “Download File 1” and “Download File 2” buttons.
When I press the first “Verify” button, my homepage is opening in a new tab.
The same thing happens when I press on the second “Verify” button.
The next step was clicking on the “Next” button but there is “Verifying domain ownership failed. Please check that the files listed below are uploaded to “webroot/.well-known/acme-challenge/” directory.” message appeared.

    How to resolve this issue?

    Thanks

How did you end up resolving this?

@tkjgnws One possibility is that you are trying to install wordpress in sub-directory example (root/wordpress), it won’t work in that case as you need to upload the files to your root directory (example – public_html)
