• I really hope someone can help me! I had my site set up for me as a special offer via a site design company. Big mistake – I’m thinking that I should have done it myself from the ground up and I would have learnt a lot more! Anyway, I had to re-organise the site because it wasn’t quite what I wanted. I’ve struggled through and managed to get it more or less to how I want it, although looking at other people’s sites mine really does look quite amateur (never mind we’ve all got to start somewhere!) Having got it to this stage I’m thinking that no-one will ever see it because I just don’t understand how to get it verified with the search engines. I’ve tried doing what they say; eventually I worked out that I had to insert the meta tag into the header.php file – it didn’t work, they couldn’t verify it and I’ve downloaded an html file but have no idea where to upload it to. Have read about root folders but haven’t got the first clue how and where to find my root folder. Help! am on the verge of giving up with this site which is a shame coz I think a lot of people could benefit from it. The site is https://www.prematurebaby2teenager.com (sorry couldn’t work out how to make this appear as a direct link – aagghhhhh) if anyone wants to have a look and comment. Many thanks.

  • Your website looks fine and you using the default twenty ten theme.

As for SEO there are two plugins you install one for sitemap and one SEO there are quite few plugins available.

I have article on my website Essential Steps For WordPress SEO(Click on my name) see if that helps you understand SEO and then you can go into complex part.

Hi – I installed the SEO Plugin and copied the code into the Google box that came up but Google still states website could not be verified. Whilst doing this I came across the how to create a child theme within Twenty Ten which is another problem that I’d had. I copied the relevant text into function.php but all has gone horribly wrong – this message came up – Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/sspremat/public_html/wp-content/themes/twentyten/functions.php on line 100
I can’t get into WP admin anymore now – any advice on how to get out of this? Thanks

You should not have done anything in functions.php file unless you know what you doing replace that functions.php file from a fresh download wordpress twenty ten theme.

I am confused on where in google are you tying to validate

Hi – the way you explained it looked so easy I thought even I could do that! Anyway I can’t get to any part of the admin in my website as this error message just comes up. A company originally did this site for me which I’ve changed along the way and stupidly I have no back up as I didn’t know how to do the backup.
Validation – I’m trying to copy the html code that google give you in order for them to validate the site. There are a number of different parts of the SEO plugin – I used the Webmaster Verification Assistant but google came back with can’t verify site.
Hope this is sort of clear!

You do not have to do that in wordpress you need to create a file in your root and add that code in the file and then verify.
Google wants you to verify that you are the owner of the website as only you can do that on your host account.

Seems as if you will need to reinstall the theme as you have been changing codes in theme.

If you use skype is there anyway we can meet my Id is govindjip

Yes I think reinstalling the theme is probably the best thing to do. Somebody has mentioned FTP to me and I’m going to try and get that set up so I can get to my admin that way. Thanks for your continued help in this matter – you have been very patient with me! I’m going to find myself a good course to go on to complement the 5 books I’m currently surrounded by!
I’ll let you know how it works out.
