    I tried v2.6.2 a few minutes ago and it brought my site to its knees with a database communication can’t be established message after only a couple page refreshes. I had to deactivate the plugin to get things working again.

    Your plugin worked perfectly before the v2.6 came out a few weeks ago. I’ve been using it for a long time with no issues.

    Are you in a position to install v2.6.0 – you’ll need to deactivate and delete the Top 10 version you have now. Please make sure in the General tab that you don’t select to delete data or settings.

    I’m quite confused as to what could have triggered the issue

    I just installed 2.6.0 and it’s working, but I think it’s still causing pages to load slower than normal. Could there be some compatibility issue with WordPress 5.0x?

    The only thing I can think of is the corruption in the Top 10 tables. The plugin shouldn’t have issues with WP 5.x.

    One thing to try is the following:

    1. Backup your database
    2. Export the data (not structure) of the wp_top_ten and wp_top_ten_daily plugins. Double check that the .sql file doesn’t have DELETE statements for the table
    3. Select the option to delete the plugin settings and data
    4. Reinstall the latest version from the folder – this should create the two tables again
    5. Import the data in the two tables that you exported in step 2
