In The Events Calendar, I can create venues, or use previous ones I have created. Great.

However, I am wondering if The Events Calendar has the ability, or maybe there is a plugin, to have the venue picker automatically look up venues from an external source and give me a list to choose from, provided by Google or another 3rd party.

An example of what I am talking about is the venue picker on Meetup.com. When I create an event on the Meetup.com website, there is a box for text entry to set a venue, and as I start typing letters, the venue picker suggests venues that start with those letters.

For example, if my event is at a restaurant called Marseille in New York City, when I type in “Mars”, I will get a list of venues in NYC that begin with “Mars”, and I can choose Marseille, and the address will be filled in for me.

Note, I did not previously “create” this venue on Meetup.com. I can start typing the letters of almost any venue, and the venue picker at Meetup.com will supply a list of venues beginning with those letters.

    HI @thesinglegourmet,

That is currently not a feature in our plugins. We have filters and actions that might allow that kind of behavior to exist, but you would still need to create the venue as they get selected since WordPress will need that Venue ID to identify the information.

We do maintain a UserVoice where we look for most requested features, if you want to submit it there we will look it over once there is enough traction.

Thanks for the quick response. The idea was submitted about 5 years ago, and has 118 votes, including mine (https://tribe.uservoice.com/forums/195723-feature-ideas/suggestions/6947322-use-google-maps-to-autocomplete-venue-address-boxe). I guess that’s not enough votes yet though.

Might anyone reading this thread know of a stand-alone WordPress plugin that could do this? I’m not a coder, but it doesn’t seem that it would be that difficult.

I would find such a feature/plugin very valuable because I create about 60 events per year mostly at unique venues, and this would both save time and cut down on wrong addresses.

It’s not overly complex of a feature request, the problem is the possible complications in relation to how Google charges for all of the Maps API endpoints, so any users would need to register and signup with valid payment on Google API to use that feature.

On another side, it poses a problem on how to keep the data in Sync, between Google API and the venues you would import. We could possibly think about doing something similar to that with Event Aggregator to sync things.
