VAT validation stopped working

I had this perfectly set up and worked perfectly.
Then this morning, with the update, it all stopped working.Not connecting to the VIES server. It simply does not validate VAT number at all.
Sometimes I get a message in red at bottom of invoice page “Could not establish a connection to the server.”
Its not even validating my own VAT number as it did before (in the backend).
I have it set up as follows :
Checked : Validate VAT numbers with VIES.
Same Country Rule : Charge tax
