In the Standard Rates pages under the TAX tab in the WooCommerce settings, I have created a list of countries with their tax rate applied. The tax rate switches based on the location of the user and this works.

My problem is however with the United Kingdom, where a foreign webshop needs to pay the 20% VAT when the invoice amount is less than GBP 135, but the customer must pay the VAT during the import process when the invoice amount is higher. I am looking for an elegant solution in WooCommerce to switch the tax rate based on invoice-amount, But I can’t find a solution.

Any hints to make this work?

  • Hello @lambonak ,

    I understand your request.

You can use this example code to use a certain tax class based on sub-total cart amount –Tax based on subtotal amount

I have also got a great article to let your site ready for the UK market now. You can check it out here – Ready for Brexit: A Guide for WooCommerce Store Owners

In case you want to have a more automated process on this, you can take a look at this extension – WooCommerce Tax

    I hope this information helps.

    Thank you ??

    Hello @rur165 ,

I really urge the WooCommerce team to treshold handling into the WooCommerce plugin core. For the moment being most small shop owners have stopped selling from EU to GB just because they do not know how to adjust WC settings to the laws. This cannot be the rule for the future. WC is meant to make online selling easier.

Looking forward to your help. Thanks!

@rur165 I see the code you mentioned for subtotal, thank you.
How would I make sure that this code only applies to orders from GB?

    Hello @mbv ,

I glad to know that the code was helpful.

As these are complex development topics, we might not be able to answer all of the questions through the forum.

I can also recommend the WooCommerce Developer Resources Portal for resources on developing for WooCommerce.

In case you have further questions, feel free to open a new thread.

    Thank you ??
