None of the suggested solutions I found on the forums helped.
    This was the process:
Its a new installation. Several plugins were installed. Woocommerce was installed before Jetpack (which might have resulted in the problem).

When activating Jetpack there was also a network glitch, so it seemed it never completed its setup – when trying to activate it complained. All other plugins installed and activated properly.
But when trying to activate Jetpack, it failed. It cannot be installed again, as it exists.
    * I deactivated all plugins, Jetpack still fails
    * I removed the Jetpack directory, to install a new instance, it still showed as an available plugin, although there were no files.
    * I then downloaded Jetpack’s zip file, uploaded it via FTP to the site. Now it cannot be installed as it already exists – but it now no longer shows in list of plugins.
On the WP Plugin page it says “Last Updated: 3 days ago”, so I suspect somewhere I need to remove WordPress installation’s awareness of the previous attempt. I don’t know where.

    Please advise.
    Thanks in advance

Hello there – are you trying to activate Jetpack on WordPress hosted locally on your computer? If yes, then there are some Jetpack features that would not work in offline mode. But there shouldn’t be an issue in Jetpack installation.

Could you please log in to your site via FTP or SFTP or cPanel > File Manager and go to the wp-content/plugins/ folder and delete the folder named jetpack.

Once done, login to WordPress Admin again. After logging in to WordPress Admin, reinstall the Jetpack plugin from WordPress Admin > Plugins > Add New.

One more thing: if removing the Jetpack plugin file following the steps above, still shows Jetpack plugin is present on your site then you can check with your hosting provider on why is that happening because if the plugin is removed from wp-content/plugins/ folder then it should not show in the WP Admin ? Plugins section.

A hard cache for WP Admin may also create a similar issue but generally it doesn’t affect in these cases.

    Hello @tvejacques,

Do you have updates about that? We usually close inactive threads after one week of no movement, but we want to make sure we’re all set before marking it as solved. Thanks!
