Variation says sold out

Hello I have created a variation of a product with sizes Small and Large.

Under attributes on the Product configuration I have created two size attributes S and L.
Under variations I have the variations activated with their prices, stock management checked and the amount of units left per variation.

Save changes and publish. When I go to product and select the variations either S or L it shows as sold out.

any thoughts?

I have tried duplicating a working product or creating it from scratch.
