Variant Select List Issue

I am setting selected options in a couple of product variant select lists by clicks on elements elsewhere on the product page – example, a user clicks on an image representing the option they want, rather than just choosing it from the list.
My problem arises when the user clicks on the “Buy Now” button. WooCommerce does not recognize that all options have been chosen and reloads the page with a message for the user to select options, unless either of both options are actually chosen from the list instead of from the images.

Scroll down the the “Choose Options” section of the page. If you click on the options to select them, you will see below that the select list changes to reflect your choice, but when you “Buy Now” you will get bounced back and asked to make your selections. Also, once you get bounced back you can just click on the “Buy Now” button again without doing anything else and the cart will accept the choices the second time.
Any help figuring out what I’m missing will be much appreciated.
