Variable Product variant name value missing in datalayer

I have a product setup as Variable, and options of 5 lengths and 50 colors. The price changes depending on the length but changing the color has no effect on the price so i have just 5 variations, eg length 1 x Any color , Length 2 X Any Color..so on…. In the datalayer the length shows but not the color. I changed the first product variation, specifying a color, so length 1 x black and left the other 4 the same. Then in the data layer i can than see it say black, but for the variations that has the option any color its still blank like this item_variant: “125cm,”, opposed to variant: “25cm,black”,

At least I know now the work around for that issue is to set up the product variations specifying the attributes so not the end of the world. I just put it here to make sure the issue was not just my setup, maybe others can relate to this and share the workaround if this is the case.
