Variable email notification

You can use a plugin like Advanced Notifications https://woocommerce.com/products/advanced-notifications/ to send emails to the artists.

This plugin lets you set up order and stock notifications for users other than the admin. These can be used for notifying users of sales, sending stock notices, or even sending new orders.

There is an extension listed on the official WooCommerce.com extension marketplace called Advanced Notifications where you could set the system to email a recipient per product. The recipient would then receive an email if the product sold on your site.

Another possibility you could also explore would be WooCommerce Dropshipping where you could set the artists as suppliers. This would allow you to automatically notify suppliers when their products are purchased through your store
