The solution was to directly point to the Valueweb mysql server versus mysql.domainname.com (per the Valueweb instructions)

    And, now for the problem…

I had tried to install WordPress onto my Valueweb account. I was getting a database connection error when I tried to run the config script. The issue has been resolved.

    A few notes:
    Valueweb install instructions:
    – I have a standard account. Valueweb install notes say standard accounts do not have mysql installed. But, the Valueweb control panel allows for activation of mysql. Regardless of the instructions currently all Valueweb accounts have mysql available.
    – The Valueweb instructions for the database server field say to change from “localhost” to “mysql.domainname.com”

When I kept getting connection error and advised to check my settings (db name, username, pw etc) I called Valueweb tech support (actually located in the US!) even though they caution against supporting third party applications.

The solution was to directly point to the Valueweb mysql server versus mysql.domainname.com

They didn’t want me to publish the server name because he said it is a case by case solution (I am thinking a CNAME problem) but, if you have a clean install and are going by the numbers and it isn’t working the database server address might be the problem.

flyboyhi- I am having the same problem. If you are still out there I don’t suppose you could email me the server name, could you? My email is mo.mcleod[at]gmail[dot]com. If I don’t get the same response from Valueweb as you did it would be nice to have a back up plan!
