• My site –
    https://exposedimagephoto.com

When I run the validator on this site (to which I know absolutely NOTHING about) it comes up with all kinds of what appear to be errors and problems…

What does that mean? Why would there be errors if I am using a site template? I am assuming this is detrimental to my site but I am not sure why – can someone please explain?

    No one can explain this?

Validation errors may or may not matter; it depends on the nature/type of the validation error, and whether or not the error causes browsers not to render your site properly.

Thanks Chip – that’s what the back of my mind has been telling me – but anytime I post a comment about something not working quite right on my site someone ALWAYS has to come out of the wood works with a “your site has errors” link…

I feel better now – thank you!

If you swith the doc type to XHTML 1.0 Transitional you’ll see the errors drop by half. Validation of html 5 documents is up in the air as the standards are still changing. Templates/themes that use html 5 will show errors for a while no matter what you do.

Hmmm – how do I do that?

The doc type is hard coded or generated from header.php. That is where you can make changes. When you upgrade your theme or wordpress if it is twentyten the changes will be overwritten.

There must be a reason developers are using html 5 in themes like twentyten but I don’t know why as they will never validate. Like Chip says, it depends on the error. Some are just not important. Others like an open div will shut you down.

Most major site, ABC News, Apple, Google, for example don’t validate.
