The plugin is definitely marking valid links as 404/Broken. I can’t really seem to understand why the plugin is reporting totally working, active links as 404 – Not found. And no matter how many times I recheck them, they stay 404.

Some of the example URLs:
1) https://www.coaching-place.com/contact/
2) https://www.coaching-place.com/coaches/matey-illiesu/
3) https://www.coaching-place.com/study-efficiently-add-on/

As you can see these links are totally alright. Even if checked from third party sources but the plugin reports them as broken every time with a 404. The links are properly indexed on Google too. This actually led me to deactivate the plugin altogether for now.

Please advise what’s the matter?

Hi there @talhaimam

This one does look like a valid 404; even the text on the page appears to confirm that:
404: Gotcha! This Page Has Been Hypnotized

And I tested all 3 of your links on a page on my test site (3 times lol), and that is the only one that gets flagged as broken for me. The other 2 return a 200 (OK) status.

In your admin, under Settings > Link Checker > Advanced, can you please let us know what is set for Timeout, Max. execution time and Server load limit options?

Hi @wpmudevsupport16,

I am sorry – yes that is a 404 because I accidentally pasted the wrong url here.

The timeout is set at 30 seconds, max execution time is set at 420 seconds and the server load limit is set at 4.00

Could you please try increasing the max_execution_time to 600 and also enable logging, so we can leave it running and once you have the logging file share it with us using dropbox and sending it through our secure contact form:

Hi @wpmudevsupport15,

I was waiting for the plugin to run its routine jobs every 3 days so that you may have some logs to review. But now that I check the logs folder, I find it empty. Even though I enabled the logging on the very same day when you advised me.

Kindly instruct what needs to be done.

Also note, that I have two different sites running on different servers where I was using this plugin. The plugin is reporting broken links which are not actually broken on both sites.

Could you please try to enable the WordPress debug mode https://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/debugging-wordpress-how-to-use-wp_debug/

Click on Recheck or wait for the cron and see if any WordPress & Broken Link Checker log will be generated.

Hey there, @talhaimam, apologies for the delay.

I was wondering if it would be possible for you to disable open_basedir module on your web server, if you let us know where are you hosting this site, we might be able to find specific instructions on how to do it.

This will be only while we run the test.

Hi Jorge,

Can you please explain a bit why we’d need to disable open_basedir restriction? It is perhaps implemented by a security expert and I am not sure if I can get my client’s permission to do so.

We’re hosting the site with GCP.

The open_basedir will limit the file access from PHP, it is fine you disable it for some troubleshooting tests and we can confirm the issue.
