The option to set the menu item’s featured image is not visible.

it’s probably simply not enabled in the (admin) screen options on the post pages (i.e when you edit wppizza menu items)
if that is not the case, then perhaps your theme has it disabled (though unlikely)

the wppizza plugin does not interfere with this one way or another

The feature image does not appear in the screen options to be selected (or deselected)

did you try a different theme ? (to narrow things down)

in fact, featured images (i.e thumbnails) are specifically enabled for the wppizza custom post type.

there is of course also the possibility that some other plugin overrides this , so i would also suggest to disable all other plugins – even if only temporarily – to see if the issue is there somewhere

I have tried this with no plugins enabled and the default twentyseventeen theme – still the same.

I have had this plugin running elsewhere on a different server for several years and never had an issue like this.

I might add – it worked fine before the weekend. This is a new development as of this morning when I attempted to add a new menu item.

update: solved. I found a duplicate function name in the child theme functions.php

(the theme’s functions start with ‘wp’ ?? )

not sure why the default twentyseventeen theme had an issue – but I’m outta time on this one ??

thanks for talking me through it.
