3.0.0-beta3 is now available for anyone willing to help me beta test. I am excited about some of the new features in this beta as people have been asking for them for a while.

With this new version you can now limit the icons available in an ACF FontAwesome field in one of two ways:

    1. You can limit to one or more of the FontAwesome v5 icon sets, including Solid, Regular, Light, and Brands
    2. With both FontAwesome v4 or v5, you can now create your own ‘custom icon set’, using icons individually selected from the full list of FontAwesome icons

NOTE: From this version forward, Advanced Custom Fields version 5.7+ is required. Previous versions had supported ACF 4.x, so make sure you are up to date!

I am looking for a variety of testers, including those who plan to stick with the FontAwesome 4.x icon set.

    To download:

    1. Navigate to the ‘advanced‘ view of this plugin
    2. Scroll to the bottom and look for the “PREVIOUS VERSIONS” heading
    3. Select “3.0.0-beta3” from the list, and click download

Once you have the beta zip, you can either uninstall your current version of this plugin and install the zip from the WP-Admin plugin manager, or you can manually replace the files in your plugins directory. Do whichever is more comfortable to you.

Please report back your findings, even if it is just to say that everything is working well for you. Please include:

    • Which version of ACF you are using (4.x or 5.x, latest?)
    • Which version of FontAwesome icons you are using (4.x or 5.x)
    • If you are experiencing issues, please give detailed steps to reproduce the issue, include screenshots if helpful, or even an export of the troublesome field group

Thank you in advanced to anyone who steps up to help test!

The new ‘custom icon set’ builder can be found in the FontAwesome Settings page in your WordPress Admin area, under the “Custom Fields” parent menu item.

See this screenshot for a glimpse into what it looks like:

    Hi Matt,

Thanks for the message about this release and your work on it too!

    I’m downloading it now.

I’m trying to use v3.0.0-beta3 and am running into problems. I’m using Font Awesome 5.3.1 and ACF Pro 5.7.7.

I’ve set the Return Value as “Icon Class”, but it only returns the (for example) “fa-calculator” class, and not the “fas” or “far” class that is meant to go with it. But I need that other class as well, to display the icon properly.

The reason I’m returning “Icon Class” and not “Icon Element” is because I want to add additional classes to the element, such as “fa-fw fa-2x fa-pull-left”.

Is there any workaround, or should I wait for an update?

It sounds like you may be using FontAwesome 4.x still (even if you are enqueuing 5.x on the frontend).

Can you go into the FontAwesome Settings menu under “Custom Fields” in the WordPress admin area, and make sure that you’ve selected 5.x as your ‘major version’.

Oh yes, that fixed it. I hadn’t noticed that Options page. Thanks so much for the quick reply!

No problem. The settings page is new, and I’ll be adding some extra links/notices to draw attention to it once this new version is released.
