v2.7.1 Images not showing in Visual Editor or website

I have seen a lot of talk on the forums with the image issues with 2.8, however, am having issues with 2.7.1

The upload of the images seems to work ok, but not only can I not see them on my site when I reference them, but I can’t even see them in the WordPress UI Media Library – although all of the entries are there.

I have cleared all caches
I have tried deleting, creating a new images folder and re-uploading.

Still can’t see them in the WordPress UI.

Any thoughts?
