This error leads to exceedingly slow add to cart actions.

This error that results in the shopping cart because 10x slower is attributed as far as I am concerned in the v.2.1 of Woocommmerce Service plugin (shipping & Tax) that was released earlier today.

Please inform the respective team.

It will also be nice to see them improving the time it takes for the add to cart function. I guess if they can slow it down by as much they may improve it too – as the time it takes to add an item into cart ought to be “instantaneous” (e.g. less than 0.3 secs)!!!!

I am pasting the previous message that was on the WooCommerce Core forum. If I understood correctly, you received that error message after updating WooCommerce Shipping & Tax to the v2.1.

As a first step, to help you investigate, could you please share a copy of your site’s System Status? It is under WooCommerce > Status. Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”.?

v.2.1 Slowing down add to cart by over 10times

Thanks for reaching back, with the site’s System Status Report (SSR).

I went ahead with trying out WooCommerce Shipping & Tax, version 2.1.0, on a test installation of mine and experienced a zippy add to cart functionality.

That said, as the store’s base I used the latest versions of WordPress, WooCommerce and the default Twenty Twenty-Three theme.

Whereas, in the SSR for the site at https://femme-fatale.gr there are > 100 plugins active at the moment.

Since because the site is live and in one of the busiest days of the month, I suggest testing things in a development server and see if the issue persists. By testing, I mean go ahead with a full conflict test, in order to identify the bottleneck’s source. Here’s how to test for conflicts:

Kindly note that HPOS was released less than a month ago, with WooCommerce version 7.1.0, and remains disabled by default. For more, feel free to refer to the “Database Changes” section in the announcement post, directly linked here.

As the notice reads, under WooCommerce > Settings > Advanced > Features:

Experimental features
These features are either experimental or incomplete, enable them at your own risk!

I suggest unchecking the High-Performance order storage (COT) feature and see if the sluggishness persists.

Let us know how that goes.

I thought it was experimental from the beginning of this year (when we had to add something in our fuctions.php to enable it) until version 7. From version 7.1 I was under the impression that was supported by at least Woocommerce/Automatic’s plugin and thus we were just like testing compatibility with other plugins such as WPAllImport/Export etc.

I cannot disable it because we are using the tables of the new schema to get our order/product statistics etc.

May I ask, did you create a staging site? The benefit of this, is that you will not touch the live site, it would be great if you disable all plugins except WooCommerce and WooCommerce Shipping & Tax, then see if the issue persists on that environment.

Can you also check under WooCommerce > System Status > Logs? (Please check if there are any other errors showing, if so, you can paste the error messages received).

Yes, the WooCommerce team is working hard to ensure all plugins WooCommerce/Automattic supports are updated for HPOS. While almost all of them are as we speak. That said, I see you are using Table Rate Shipping version 3.0.36 which is older and doesn’t declare support for HPOS. Are you able to update to 3.1.0 which was released on 3rd Nov 2022 to ensure compatibility with HPOS?

Thanks for the error details. On a quick review of the log, it looks like there are coming from plugins that the WooCommerce doesn’t directly work on, are you able to work with the plugin authors to get help with these?
