v. 1.2.1 upgrade experience
-
I upgraded v. 1.2 to v. 1.2.1 on 10/14/2004. When I tried the upgade on my localhost server (Easy Web Server v.1.5), copying all the files except index.php and wp-layout.css, I had some of the same problems that I encountered when I was making my first WP installation. After I worked through the errors I had made, v. 1.2.1 works very well on that server. The improved login screen is great, allowing return to blog, etc.
Being a little more paranoid about my <real> weblog on my <out there> server, I decided to examine all the files and only replaced those files which had been modified since v. 1.2. This are the list of files that I replaced.

When I viewed my weblog, https://www.stephenfox.us/wp/ it came up readily and I thought I had it made. Imagine my horror when I tried to log-in. Neither my personal log-in nor my site admin login moved the focus to the admin panel. It just blinked like it used to before I got the wp-login.php from https://www.sexygirlgeek.com. I decided to replace just wp-login.php from my backup copy and then everything worked very well.
I have no clue why the wp-login.php file works on my local server, but not on the online server. Any ideas?
Other than that, it looks like v. 1.2.1 is ready for prime time.
