    Hi;

After update to the last version (1.5.1), all UTF-8 characters are replaced with non-senese symbols.

    I tried these steps :

    1) In CPanel>phpMyAdmin, changed “Collation” of database to utf8mb4

    2) In wp-config.php file changed ‘DB_CHARSET’ to ‘utf8mb4’

    3) Rollback to version 1.5.0

    But none of them works.

I wrote a ticket to Support of WP Table Builder, but they didn’t answer.

I’ve many large tables which are useless now and takes a very long time to write contents again, very frusrating for a 5-stars plugin!

Any idea how to solve the problem?

Hi! I had the same problem and solved it by downloading the version before and installed. The characters did not disappear but I was able to replace them with the correct characters

    Thanks alltomtrav.

But rollback to 1.5.0 doesn’t work for me, all non-english characters are shown as non-senese symbols still.

Did you do any extra steps besides of rolling back?

    (@alltomtrav)

No. Have you tried to change the characters and then save the tables after rollback?

Dear alltomtrav thanks for your prompt replies, but sorry not to get your point.

I’ve tons of non-senese symbols, even after rollback.

How can I change manually this huge amount of messed characters to the original text?

    (@alltomtrav)

Ok.. I see… I had just the table heder to change. All the other text should be changed anyway since we have new lunch menus every monday.

then im afraid you have to wait for a new plugin update with a fix.

    Bad news:
Kudos to EXCELLENT SUPPORT (!) of this plugin, there’s no easy way to restore UTF-8 characters which turn to non-sense symbols after update to 1.5.1 .
    Good News:
I tried many ways, but at last found a very weird solution :

    1) Select and copy symbols of each cell to clipboard
    2) Go to this online converter :
    https://string-functions.com/encodedecode.aspx
    3) Change “Encode with” to Windows 1252
    4) Change “Decode with” to utf-8
    5) Press “Encode/Decode” button
    6) Correct text will appear under “The encoded / decoded string:”
    7) Copy and paste correct text to replace symbols inside the cell

This should be done for each cell of every table one by one !!!

    Note :
In my case, Windows 1252 to utf-8 worked. But you may need to tweak with these choices based on your language.

If you’ve rolled back to 1.5.0 (which is ineffective), DO NOT update to 1.5.1, or you’ll get non-senese symbols again.

Lots of kudos and loud claps for the developers!
Maybe your premium plugin explodes whole website instead of tables?!

Hello @amirhosain , we fixed a security issue with the 1.5.1 update. Unintentionally, the fix also caused some unicode text to break. This happened because some unicode characters can be misused to perfrom XSS attacks. We failed to test for this scenario and we are sorry for this situation. We are currently testing the next version of WPTB which will fix the text issue meaning you can use unicode just like before. It will be released very soon. In the meantime, we recommend you roll back to 1.5.0 and not modify any more tables in 1.5.1.
Unfortunately, the broken tables will not return to their earlier state with the new update. We understand that you had large tables that got ruined because of this update, we apologize for that. If you have your database regularly backed up and can share a backup of your database where the tables were working correctly, we can help you recover the tables. Failing that, we can also try the wayback machine to fix the tables.

    Hi,
Encoding error has been resolved but now a new problem came with version 1.6.0.
If I rewrite something in an existing table, the size of the table will change after saving.

@murgi 1.6.0 is internally a major change. We are working to bring it on par with the older versions. You can expect very fast updates that will fix the issues you are facing.

Thank you for the demonstration – it is very helpful for us.

Why every update fixes some parts and ruins the others?

This is the first item of every developer’s checklist :

    CHECK THE PLUGIN BEFORE RELEASE!

    @amirhosain,

We apologize for the inconvenience. We will try better next time.

Can you please share what problems you are facing after the latest update?

We would love to have the opportunity to fix them as soon as possible.

    Kind regards.

    Hello,
I updated it to 1.6.0. In order for the repair to be tested, I need to make a small modification in the existing table and then save it. However, another error occurs when modified. The contents of each cell apply the same font color as set in the first cell and cannot be modified separately.

    Hi all,

The UTF-8 issue was fixed in the last update.

    Kind regards.

    Hi,

Unfortunately, it is still not perfect.
Some parts still do not appear well.
    https://librahotel.hu/1.6.1.a.jpg

After modification, the system confirms that it has saved my modification.
    https://librahotel.hu/1.6.1.b.jpg

But in fact, that doesn’t happen. If I reopen it, it can be seen that the system is defective again.

Unfortunately, I have more and more time going to feedback after updates.

@murgi this is really good info. Thank you very much for the links. We’ll try to get this sorted in the next update which will drop in the next few days.
