When using page builders on sites such as WPBakery Page Builder (formerly visual composer) & Muffin Builder, Yoast doesn’t pick up the text within those builders. So even if I apply a keyword that is in the text, it doesn’t realize it.

Is there a way around this to be able to use Yoast properly?

The Yoast SEO for WordPress Premium plugin is able to detect content from both the text and visual mode of your WordPress native editor. In addition, the plugin is also able to detect the content with some page builder plugins. Currently, not all the page builder plugins and themes are supported, nor is the plugin fully able to detect and highlight the content in some cases while using the page builder. To get the best results, you’ll need to use the WordPress default editor. We’ve also started recently adapting our plugin for the Gutenberg Editor.

If you are adding your content through other plugins or theme content boxes, Yoast SEO for WordPress Premium won’t be able to detect it by default. In the past, we have tried to parse shortcodes and other content boxes with horrible results so we opted to provide plugin and theme developers with an API that they can use to pass their content to our page analysis. It’s possible that the Yoast SEO plugin isn’t working with your custom page builder. You can read more about it here — https://kb.yoast.com/kb/is-the-plugin-compatible-with-xyz-visual-page-builder/

If you are using a plugin or theme that doesn’t send their content to our page analysis, please reach out to the developer and ask them about adding the functionality to their code — https://kb.yoast.com/kb/can-i-add-data-to-the-page-analysis/

With that being said, while our plugin isn’t able to detect all your text blocks and shows an incorrect analysis report, this doesn’t mean that search engines won’t be able to parse them. Our content analysis is just to validate the content of your website and doesn’t really affect how search engines crawl and index your site.

@michael, thank you for the thorough explanation.

So in summary, it sounds like the page builder plugin we are using, may not be compatable with the free version of Yoast. But that however as long as we are following yoasts guidelines & setting up the SEO on each page properly, that even though we won’t see the green or yellow lights within the Yoast plugin, search engines would still see our text properly?

If so, this all sounds good & we will take a look at the premium plugin to compare it.

Yes, you are correct. Even if you are not getting a green light on Yoast, as long as you are following the guidelines, this won’t hurt your SEO and still, content can be considered optimized.

@jerparx, thank you for confirming. This is great news.
