• Hello All!
Trying to install WordPress on a brand new server. It is 2008 x64. Running the WPI – and here’s what happens.

I select wordpress to install in the WPI. It then pops up the Prerequisites window. What type of database to use – and it has MySQL (not installed). I then type in a password that is complicated – 8 characters, one capital letter, lower case latter, a number, and funny character (!@#$%^&*()_+). I click on Continue.

Next window – There is an X next to WordPress and MySQL Windows 5.1. I click on I Accept.

The next window says that it is downloading MySQL Connector/Net, then MySQL Windows 5.1. This runs for a while with a little progress bar. But the data speed is 0 Kb/sec.

The next window says it is in the Install phase. It says – The specified password for account ‘root” is not valid, or failed to connect to the database server. It is asking for the password again. I cannot get past this point – so I click on cancel.

The next window is Finish – and says… We’re sorry. The following products have failed to install.

MySQL Connector/Net – This product did not download successfully: Unable to connect to the remote server

WordPress – This product cannot be installed because a product that it depends on did not install successfully.

MySQL Windows 5.1 – This product did not download successfully: Unable to connect to the remote server

    And you click on Finish.

I assume that the problem is that the WPI cannot download MySQL? Has anyone else run into this bump in the install process?

    Let me know, and thanks!

  • Hi ferbert,

looks like you might have enter wrong information. To get the local host name… go to the control panel of your web hosting company and look for something that say : server name. This is your local host name.

next u have to create a brand new database with new database user. (rembr to write the database info on a piece of paper for easy reference.)

enter the database name, data base user and password in the installation page.

it should be fine afterwards. goodluck!

Hi Emily – This is on a local server – not a webhost.

    [ No bumping please. ]

Did you checked your WPI error log, it will help us to trace what exactly the problem is. Or else you can switch to Apache by going for Wamp server.

Yes Aadhaar- it looks like the site where the WPI is trying to download the MYSQL elements are wrong. It cannot download them. I copy the download URL’s from the log and place them into IE, and it gives a 404 error. Not sure what to do to correct that. I tried just downloading the 2 MYSQL programs and install them myself outside the WPI, and it apparently does not install them correctly. Do you have any ideas?

Yes! You can download & install mysql separately and use the mysql server for your use.
