• Forgive me for my mangled topic title, its not easy to explain being brief!

Basically, I have an existing e-commerce site hosted on a VPS. My problem is that our developer who built the site is a .NET guy and doesn’t know mySQL & php, so as a consequence won’t support any issues if I set up WordPress on our VPS (more than understandable).

So what I’m asking is, can I install wordpress at existingecommercesite.co.uk/blog, but using a different web host? By the way, my php/mysql knowledge goes no further than the 5 minute install.

    Many thanks & happy holidays

  • This is not possible in the way you describe it, as you cannot have the same domain name on two different servers.

The solution depends on your hosting company. If they allow you to set up subdomains, I think you could create blog.existingecommercesite.co.uk and you could install WordPress there. If necessary add a hyperlink on the main domain pages, to take visitors from the main domain to the subdomain ( and in your blog, a link to get them back to the main site ! ).

Alternatively, get a new domain name with another host, and put WordPress there. Again, you’d need a link to take visitors to your blog.

    Hope this helps !

With the New domain name you may try a redirect index file in the other /blog directory to auto re-direct visitors without clicking on a link.
