  • if you have gd installed (who doesn’t?) you could check to see if a thumbnail exists, and if not, create it. it’s not a big deal to an image of any starting size and thumbnail it to specific dimensions. that would be fine if you weren’t concerned about cropping to a particular center point. you’d still have the option of creating your own custom thumbnail and overwriting the autogenerated one.

let me say i apologize profusely for the dealyed response. i had a daughter and just moved to a new state so my life has been hectic. no. seriously hectic. anyways. i use categories for the different disciplines and i use the loop to pull the data out per category. as for the thumbs i am using theExcerpt, just popping an image link in there.
i am creating my own thumbs since i want to control whats in them. i hope that answers any questions. i am a WP newb really so i just read alot. the thing i am trying to do right now which really has me baffled is making checkboxes for the different project descriptors (design / direction / flash , etc.) using custom fields. and then depending on which ones i select they display the little colored icon. i can make the custom fields no problem but i cant retrieve the meta data properly and change it into an image.

nix that – i got that figured out too now. i am using another plugin called Get “Custom Field Values” i am using it within a php if statement and its working like a charm.

Nice work sodypop. Think I might apply some your approach to my blog when I finally get round to adding a portfolio ??

i was inspired by your theme and applied it on a blog i designed, https://www.bienaldearquitectura.cl/index.php/category/muestra-nacional/
instead of using the image link on the excerpt i put the link as a meta value.

thanks for your inspiring idea ??

How do you make the posts go into a table like that?

I can understand using the image as the excerpt etc.. so I could just make a long list of pics.. but how do you make the table like that?!

s the Whole Post just Thumb linked to the image ??

dbasulto, I would love to know how you created that thumbnail table. I would love to do something like that for my portfolio.

So is each thumbnail it’s own post? If so, did you generate the thumbnails automatically or manually and how did you get them into a table like that???

any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    Another nice example https://icon-king.com/
