• I recently took a job with a company, and am in the early stages of setting up a blog. But I also will be making little changes to the main pages of the website too. The IT guy here uses FileZilla as a way to make edits or add material to the website. I’m more familiar with WordPress’s editor, which doesn’t demand much, if any, HTML knowledge. But I’m wondering what happens to picture files I add through WordPress, opposed to those added through FileZilla. If I started a website from scratch, it would be easy for me, I think.

  • What type of picture files…. as in how are they used?

Do you simply mean all of the pictures you would upload therough the WP media interface… such as adding to posts or pages?

Physically there is no difference, WP or filezilla. Either way, the image ends up on your server. When you upload an image, it just goes to your uploads folder, probably sorted by year and month

You could do the same thing with filezilla.

The important thing to know is that WP would only be aware of files uploaded through WP. If you upload files using filezilla to your uploads folder, WP doesn’t know they exist so you will not be able to use those images through the standard WP interface.
