Hi, I recently removed Ezoic from my site for some testing but switched back afterwards. Anyway, before I had to configure wordfence’s IP detector different in order to work with Ezoic. I removed the Ezoic IPs from wordfence while testing and switched the IP detector to use the “recommended detection method”.

When switching back, I followed your instruction on this page- https://www.wordfence.com/help/dashboard/options/ and it said to use the “X-Forwarded-For HTTP header. Only use if you have a front-end proxy or spoofing may result” for Ezoic. However, wordfence gave me an error message saying I should switch to- “Use the X-Real-IP HTTP header. Only use if you have a front-end proxy or spoofing may result.”

I just want to make sure that this is correct, seeing as there is a difference between what the plugin is requesting me to use and your documentation. (Ps. if I am supposed to use the “Use the X-Real-IP HTTP header. Only use if you have a front-end proxy or spoofing may result.” should ezoic IPs still be listed in the trusted proxies area?).

    Thanks guys.

Hi @bs1250, thanks for reaching out to us.

Just so that I can check whether the documentation/plugin difference in recommending X-Forwarded-For and X-Real-IP is based on how your configuration is being detected, could you please send a diagnostic report to wftest @ wordfence . com? You can find the link to do so at the top of the Wordfence Tools > Diagnostics page. Then click on “Send Report by Email”. Please add your forum username where indicated and respond here after you have sent it.

Note: For the fastest response time, please make sure and add any information or questions directly to this topic and not the email address above unless asked.

    Thanks,

    Peter.

Hi @bs1250, thanks for sending that over.

When two of the headers have the same IP, Wordfence has an order of which one it prefers. Ezoic itself only sets X-Forwarded-For and their proprietary headers, so it must be the host setting X-Real-IP to be the same value. This is fine, but just changes which header Wordfence prefers.

It looks like it should be fine to use X-Real-IP in this case.

    Thanks again,

    Peter.
